its not a time counter. its manual so it really wouldnt help you. i didnt get one i just check every 10 periods of my pendulum on a piece of paper

Just as well, because I'm pretty sure it would be illegal. If it were built in to the device it would fall under the "no commercial counters" rule, and if it wasn't it would be banned by the "no other resources permitted" rule.

Just gonna throw something out here...

I have officially tried 4 different types of clocks
-Atwood machine
-Using a biuret to get drops of water and then measure drops/second
-Using a bottle with a hole in it and measuring the flow of the water
-Dropping sand out of a funnel and measuring the rate.

After trying all four of those I have come to the conclusion that my attempt to be original was a bad idea, from my experience so far, the best way to do this event is a pendulum with a known period, as long as decent care is used in making the pendulum it is IMHO the single best option for this event.

pendulums are def the best simple designs. however more sophisticated designs of something else may work better

I don't mean to sound like a total novice, although, when it comes to time stuff, I am, but what's ADE, if there is one, stand for?

AD= Anno Domini,
CE= Common Era
they're the same thing, but I'm not sure ADE exists...

I wasn't sure if there was an ADE, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks for the other stuff.

at the competition yesterday they didnt use the official time trial files. but the guy said they were using windows media player so i guess that is good. and the test had 30-40 questions and was very hard. i still got first

Are you willing to say what sort of things were on the test? Our regionals competition is coming up in two weeks, and while my partner and I are trying to cover all our bases, it's difficult to tell how the event coordinators will interpret the rules. It could be just science/math-based, but it also could very well also include history of time stuff. Was there a clear tendency one way or the other on your test?

I only did Time in two competitions so far, and the official files. I don't know which program they were using, but it was probably not media player since it matched my clock

The test was really good yesterday (for Solon Invitational) and it had lots of physics! And some time history questions.

I might get a soft copy of the test soon, would you like to exchange the tests, for practice, if you have a soft copy (or you can scan it and email).
