You can make a prediction on the chances of your team making it to nationals based on past years performances, but your not going to make it without: 1. Hardwork, and 2. The understanding that there may ALWAYS be someone better than you no matter who you are.
2011 Season Events~

hmmm... ^^ agree.
1. students cycle out for every team, and sure the method and coaching has to do with it, but the students are the major factor... and if you get new students... just because you made it last year doesn't mean you'll make it again. and even if YOU don't get new students, someone else may... and they might ROCK.
and
2. funding... meh, might have a bit to do with it, but a school with the best equipment vs. a school with AMAZING olympians and media-core equip... yeah. (we made it last year and we had hardly ANY funding..)
3. WORK WORK WORK ... if you don't work... you won't make it.
BUT for the teams that DO make it... nats is AWESOME! ( a HUGE rush of adrenalin) :) crossing my fingers that my team makes it this year!!!

last year the day after we got back from nats we had algebra finals or something... it was a huge bummer bc we were all SOO tired.
and in answer to the main question... will i make it... NOOOOO CLUE!!!!

Some of my team members are slackers, so we're probably not going to even win states...

You make it sound like winning states isn't the step before going to nats...

haha
1-- get a team 2-- study like crazy 3-- do well at invites because it a) proves you an b) good practice 4--- REGIONALS then 5-- state then hopefully nats
all the while studying. NO ONE no matter what should count on winning state till you get there. even then... you NEVER know. :) we knocked out 2 teams that had been going to nats (and were top 10) for the past 10 - 15 years. and then the team that got second in state, just beat us at our first invite. (well it was their a our a their b our b....)

What I meant is, some of my team mates could care less about going to states or nationals. I wish everyone on my high school team was a passionate as everyone on the middle school team. They are REALLY crazy... :D

What school do you go to, fossilgirl? Does it get to nats often? If so, are the other members of your team taking nats for granted? If the answer to all three of these questions is yes, then you didn't answer the first one right. If the answer to the last two questions are yes, then you should remind them that you should never take nats for granted. You can pay dearly for that.

Since she's in Ohio, I think it's safe to assume that her team does not regularly go to nationals. If they did, then they would be one of last year's top 3!

I was thinking the same thing, but the way some of those posts were worded makes me think otherwise. With the way Ohio does at Nats, I'd expect the winners to be very passionate.
