So in that case, rubber lubricant would work too?Frogger4907 wrote:It could work, but I think a liquid would work better. Just go to walmart with 5 bucks and grab a spray bottle of Armor All.illusionist wrote:How well would Vaseline work as lubricant? (the clear petroleum jelly kinda stuff) I don't have any other kind of lubricant...

Re: Rubber
Wait.... Vaseline as lubricant for the rubber, or for the bearings?

Vaseline for the bearings. I was just asking if rubber lubricant could also be used for the bearings.chia wrote:Wait.... Vaseline as lubricant for the rubber, or for the bearings?

Re: Rubber
So I used a 30 cm motor stick, but put an extension on the bottom so that the two rotors were spaced about 40+ cm apart, and the stability it showed was pretty amazing!lllazar wrote:Longer Motor stick (40 cm) and definitely reducing friction between rotor and prop hanger should help. I was having the same problem and i totally re-did my design so that friction was at an absolute minimum.illusionist wrote:Are you guys double-looping the 1/8? My helicopter weighs 4.3 grams (I know, i'm trying to lose weight), and it works great with 4 strands of 3/32 or one loop of 3/16. However it doesn't even climb with a 2 gram loop of 1/8...

Re: Rubber
I understand a longer motor stick helps with stability issues, but I don't see how it can actually help the helicopter climb when it hadn't before.

Re: Rubber
No, it didn't help with the climb. Only stability. I'm still kinda stuck on that... Maybe I'll just stick with 3/16 rubber since our regionals is this weekend.chia wrote:I understand a longer motor stick helps with stability issues, but I don't see how it can actually help the helicopter climb when it hadn't before.

Re: Rubber
Om nom nom. Maybe I should buy myself a little bit of 3/16 and see what happens.

Re: Rubber
Are you having a problem with lift? With 3/16, you can only get about 450 turns in. With my old helicopter (now stuck in our school library
) I somehow got 1:40 with 3/16. Now, I'm getting about 0:40 with 3/16.

Re: Rubber
Illusionist, nice job on the stability!
And Chia, i'm sorry for not being clear, i suggested the longer motor stick only truly knowing that it would help with stability. Whether or not it helps with climb...i doubt it but who knows? Either way, more stability = more efficiency = better flight time either way.

Re: Rubber
Is anyone having prop hanger strength issues? we used thin rubber for right stuff, so we never had a problem, but our regionals helicopter had huge problems with the hanger hooks falling off, maybe because the rubber (1/8) was pulling hard at just 850 winds. We don't want strength to be a limiting factor, so how can we fix that?
