That sounds like an efficient system, except how did it work for larger blocks? (Attach lego to peg number 58?)
ornithology, forestry, entomology, triple E, green generation, water quality, dynamic planet (lakes & rivers), awesome aquifers, meteorology, robot arm, write it do it. :)

Oh, but then that might not work for larger pieces like those big flat pieces. For the big flat pieces you could use a similar coordinate system though, where the piece is a large coordinate plain.

Well, to save space it isn't even always necessary to refer to things by coordinates. If you have one big flat grey Lego piece, refer to it as such. But (obviously) you should use coordinates when referring to where adjacent pieces will be attached.

Projected 2011-2012 Events: Anatomy, Microbe Mission, Disease Detectives, Tower, Optics, Helicopter.
Past Events: Anatomy (7th), Helicopter (6th), Mission Possible (1st), Write It Do It (4th, 8th), Ornithology (5th).

Also, unrelated: A good idea for practice is to switch places with your partner to get perspective.

In my region the base piece of the model was a small red potato. Is it just me, or is that totally not repeatable?

It was a potato? That's crazy. In New York they never have stuff like that. we generally have legos, Knex, or zoobs. The c division regionals was pipe cleaners and beads though.

Well...I guess you could find a similar-looking small red potato, but if there was stuff attached to the potato, a different shaped potato could throw some teams off and that wouldn't be a very fair WIDI.
