What doesn't matter? What browser you use or that I'm not in this event?tclme_elmo wrote:It doesn't really matter, does it.amerikestrel wrote:Does anyone know what web browser is used for the competition? Or does it say in the rules?
I don't event know why I'm posting in here; I'm not even in this event anymore.

All web browsers are pretty much the same: you have the url bar, and thats pretty much all you need to know about them. Most of what you do has less to with the browser and more to do about what sites you are visiting on them.

Ubuntu is awesome.
Re: Compute This B
Although, I may add that browser familiarization is a good idea
, and the Mozilla engine loads in much less time than the IE engine... Although, what might matter is the difference between the "Office" families, (I.e. 2003, 2007, I use 07 but prefer 03). There are a few (correct me if I'm wrong) that do not even use these, but rather OpenOffice, which is most like the 2003 edition, so make sure you know 2007 but see if you can find either 2003 or download OpenOffice to your computer.

Re: Compute This B
No. No open office. They will always use Microsoft Office, no questions asked. You can install Microsoft Office onto any OS. Nowhere in the rules does it mention anything but Microsoft Office.
Anything runs faster than IE, but the Web browser doesn't matter that much, although you should learn the basics: where the URL bar is, how to work the tabs, etc.
So, familiarize yourself with: IE, Mozila, Firefox, Chrome (<--- All very similar), Microsoft Office 2000, 2001, 2007 (<--- All kinda similar).
Just to make sure, I can submit a rules clarification, if anyone thinks that will work.

Re: Compute This B
Although most browsers are pretty similar and easy to figure out, they can vary. For example, in Chrome you can do a Google search right from the address bar, while other browsers have a separate box for searches. Also, different browsers may locate the tabs in different places, or have different keyboard commands. It could get confusing if you haven't used a certain web browser before.robodude wrote:...Web browser doesn't matter that much, although you should learn the basics: where the URL bar is, how to work the tabs, etc.

What I'm trying to say is that as long as you know the basics for all the browsers, you should be good. Just do a little bit of quick research; you don't need to be a master of all browsers to do well in this event.

Re: Compute This B
How much do you really need to know about the browsers? Just where the address bar is, how to go back to the previous page, how to scroll up and down, right? It shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Compute This B
That's about it. The different browsers all do the same thing; the only major difference is appearance. As long as you can find nasa.gov, your website and Google, you're fine.

Re: Compute This B
Exactly. I really don't think it makes much of a difference. It's not like the search results will be different for each browser.AlphaTauri wrote:That's about it.
