^ I have, and I've also watched a disc of it and looked through an image gallery. Things just aren't quite clicking in my head, so I was wondering if you guys had any tips for me, some little things that helped you guys in your first year of this event. =)

To the best of my knowledge this is the first year of this event in a long time.mcgeek wrote:^ I have, and I've also watched a disc of it and looked through an image gallery. I don't think that there is a single person on this board who has competed in this event before.

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I am wondering if I am confused about the scoring. In one of the posts earlier in this thread someone said that he got a score of under 5 with a vehicle that had a distance score of 0.5cm and was relatively slow. Now relatively slow could mean something very different to different people but by my figuring you would need to have a time score of about 4 seconds to get a score of under 5 with a distance score of 0.5cm. That works out to an average speed of over 3 meters per second. That's faster than any of the scramblers at Nationals (well there may have been one that went that fast but it couldn't stop accurately). Are there really mousetrap vehicles going out and back in 4 seconds?

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
You are forgetting that there is a lane bonus. Which means that the maximum score if you travel infinitely fast is -20 (but this would be rather difficult
)
if they were .5cm off that would mean their time score was less then 24.5, which means a time less then 12.25s and therefore a speed greater then 1.12 m/s (most definitely higher since I assumed 14 meters).
In my opinion, that is a rather fast, and accurate car, but once again, it's all relative I suppose

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
Distance score: .5cm ..........(.5)
Lane Bonus:.....................-20
Time score: 24.394 s..........+24.394
Total..............................4.894
That score was pretty unusual actually. I seem to struggle with consistency. But I have improved my time but I do not by any means get consistent distance scores of .5cm. Typical scores in testing are probably closer to 15 to 30 cm distance scores with times of about 21 seconds, but it will fluctuate a little bit based on the surface it runs on. There are still lots of improvements to be made to it.

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C
I could just be insane, but isn't the overall score calculated by multiplying the time in seconds by two? the rules use 15.8 seconds as an example leading to a time score of 31.6.
If your run took 24.394 seconds I'd imagine your run score would be 29.288... But I could be wrong

So how did your judges get a time score to the thousandth of a second? Did they film it?Paradox21 wrote:Time score: 24.394 s

I can imagine we won't be seeing a lot of negative scores at nationals then...
