This is a design contest. Nobody but you knows what is best for your specific design. Go to one of the many websites that have specifications for the gearboxes. Compare the specifications of those available with the needs of your specific application. Choose the one that best fits. How good a choice you made will be reflected by your score.

You could make your own site(think thats spelled wrong

) similar to the iron sights of a rifle. you would have a U shaped piece of medal near the rear of your axle and than a straight rod at the front of your vehicle and you line them up to a target that you place at the end of the track.
Or you can get a rifle scope from a sporting goods store/walmart and mount it to your vehicle. in terms of quality of scopes you want i think the low priced one from walmart/sporting goods store would work fine for Battery buggy because we don't really need it to zoom in much do we?
the main issue with scopes is to mount it correctally so that you get an accurate and consistant way to aim each time
Scope Prices Based on location
Walmart=$52
Dicks Sporting goods=average around 40ish dollars
Sports Athority =70 dollars
Amazon= depends on what you want

Hi. Our school has two teams. On the other team, the Battery Buggy kind of "failed". The motor melted, and it uses up the batteries in literally 2 runs. Do you guys have any ideas?

it most likely has to do with gear ration for the motor meltdown. try changing the gear ratio that may improve it.
the battery issue you could try a larger size battery like a D or C since they are still 1.5 volts you can use four of them and it may increase battery life
any diagram of the wiring or a picture will make it easier to give advice

it isn't gears... they were being smart and are using a pulley system... there is a thing on the motor and a bigger one on the axle that is connected by this weird rubber band. it was made with an erector set

How often has it burned out the motor and how did the motor burn out?
did it burn out after it stopped or in the middle of a run?

well, it used to just eat batteries, but apparently, it just stopped in the middle of testing today
and it melted later

Hi there, sorry if this has already bee nasked, but does anyone know whether or not its ok to go past the target line? E.g if the distance is 8.5 meters and you go 5cm past 8.5m, will they still take 5cm for your distance? Last year I worked on Scrambler, and it wasn't allowed there. It doesn't say anything specific in the Battery Buggy rules, but it does say something towards the end like
"...this score will count even if the car goes further than the target distance"
This leads me to believe that its not OK to go further than the specified distance. Can anyone give me a definite answer?

It is allowed to go farther than the taget disance but the closer you are the better your score so if the distance was 8 meters and you went8.05eters your distance score would be.05 meters or 5 cm
