Do you mean the 15x15x15 cube used to measure the device? If that's what you meant, they usually just use a standard ruler to measure.MadCow2357 wrote:I think he meant the Thermo boxMattChina wrote:What cube are u talking about? 2018: Hovercraft, Thermo, Coaster, Solar System
2019: Thermo, Circuit Lab, Sounds, Wright Stuff
2020: Circuit Lab, Wright Stuff, Machines
2021: Circuit Lab, Machines, WIDI, anything but Wright Stuff
Can I request that we delete 2020 from our memories and do it over again?

Does he mean the measurement cube? Usually event supervisors won't go out of their way to make a measurement cube; they will just measure with a ruler or something of the like.MadCow2357 wrote:I think he meant the Thermo boxMattChina wrote:What cube are u talking about? In my limited and humble experience, they normally just measure if the sides are 15 cm for div c and 20 for div b. However, they did use parts of boxes at a few comps...

Confirming that that's what they did last year at all my competitions (also measured the distance of the hole)satvik03 wrote:In my limited and humble experience, they normally just measure if the sides are 15 cm for div c and 20 for div b. However, they did use parts of boxes at a few comps...

Re: Thermodynamics B/C Build
I'm a little confused by "Heat Score" and the event itself. Is one of the goals to achieve the minimum change in heat/temp loss using the device AND predict the change OR is JUST the prediction in the change in temp considered in the final score? Also what exactly does the "heat score"/ k value mean?
Sorry. I'm pretty much a noob![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

The Heat Score measures how well the box retains heat, and as you say, minimum heat loss is good. The Prediction Score measures how well you predict the final temperature. Both are important.geniusjohn5 wrote:I'm a little confused by "Heat Score" and the event itself. k is the reciprocal of the time constant from Newton's law of cooling.

What type of material is ideal for this event? Both cheap, easy to obtain, and effective at retaining heat.

Ummm I'm using 1/2" foam board. Foam is kinda obvious isn't it?geniusjohn5 wrote:What type of material is ideal for this event? Both cheap, easy to obtain, and effective at retaining heat.

Pretty much any type of insulation that is allowed if it fits within your building space and will be able to be worked to make your device within construction parameters.MadCow2357 wrote:Ummm I'm using 1/2" foam board. Re: Thermodynamics B/C Build
The material you use is really a matter of choice. Depending on how much money you're willing to sink on this event, you would use different materials. I would recommend doing some research and making a decision based on how good the insulation is and how much it costs.Rock&Roll92 wrote:Pretty much any type of insulation that is allowed if it fits within your building space and will be able to be worked to make your device within construction parameters.MadCow2357 wrote:Ummm I'm using 1/2" foam board.
