Just for clarification, can we put the pennies on the craft after it has been started?
Like after substantial lift has been achieved (no thrust)

Also what skirts are you guys using? my hovercraft can barely lift itself with a 8.4 NiMH pack :/

The disposable batteries you find at regular stores won’t be enough in the long run. I recommend investing in a battery that’s rechargeable (like what LittyWap was saying). It’ll save you a lot more money in the long run.

I have no problem at all lifting a 2+kg craft with no skirt. The skirt is only required for uneven surfaces, and I doubt any floors could be as disastrous as plywood tables. Skirts certainly improve performance, but it is most likely a weak lift fan. I cannot stress it enough, get a fan that could put you in the hospital. That should do the trick.

I agree with this. People I know are using a high-quality drone motor for their lift, and they can easily lift their packs, as well as around 2~ kg. The skirt they are using is a smooth garbage bag.

So exactly what kid of design are you using for your skirt. (Wall,Bag, Finger)
My hovercraft is barely lifting with 1 penny roll so I think its the problem with my skirt. (I'm pretty sure my fan can put me in the Hospital :P)
My skirt is just a plastic bag with a big hole in the middle.

I was able to lift more than 2kg with a wimpy skirt like that. I Have to agree with the others in that the issue is most probably your fan, although it could be your power source

I think you can as long as the expected voltage isn't more than 9V anywhere.

How are they using a drone motor? Every drone motor I have found is brushless and I am certain they aren't designed to cool a PC or electronics.
