Hah, I remember way back when where Sumobots was a thing...you shouldn't really be modifying a robo-cross for it anyway. It's more about "lowest/swiftest triangle wins" from what I recall.

Well that's annoying. I had to work my butt off to get in the parade of states in middle school.blhab wrote:Why are the coordinators making the entire teams to do the parade of the states? Usually alternates or team captains participate in this.
"Please see the link to Opening and Awards Ceremonies. 15 team members and one coach will report to the Devaney Center Track at 4:00 p.m. to prepare for the Parade of States that begins at 5:00 p.m. Typically teams wear colorful outfits often themed with something from their state. Teams usually bring a banner from their school and they often carry their state flag. Any display must be appropriate to the event and the audience."

Re: 2015 National Tournament: University of Nebraska
Did anyone notice that on http://scienceolympiad2015.com/schedule_master.html there is now a self-scheduling date/time via ESUS? I know this was talked about earlier how there was not going to be self-scheduling but instead there was just walk-ins (as is still shown on the schedule). Anyone know if this has changed?
Also, the location for Write Stuff is going to bring about some very, very exciting times (http://www.scienceolympiad2015.com/Docu ... Photos.pdf). Excited to see how that plays out. It's hard to even prepare to fly there because few schools have access to anything REMOTELY that size.
Edit- Self-scheduling is for trial events only.

The venue for Robocross at Nats is a small gymnasium that will also host Wheeled Vehicle, and Scrambler. This doesn't seem like enough room to run multiple courses for each of them and there doesn't appear to be any seating/bleachers or balcony for spectators. Anyone heard anything about how they're going to make this work?

Ya I'm not sure what their master plan on that exactly is... I know you can run scrambler and wheeled vehicle in a fairly small gym with some ease, but adding robo-cross into the mix might make it a bit complicated.kwinks wrote:The venue for Robocross at Nats is a small gymnasium that will also host Wheeled Vehicle, and Scrambler. Re: 2015 National Tournament: University of Nebraska
I know I'm not competing there and haven't looked too much into the venue, but to my knowledge (and the wiki) Robo-Cross only requires a 4 foot x 4 foot square...which is hardly anything compared to the scrambler/wheeled vehicle tracks (8-12 m in length). At that, even one or two decently sized hallways could house all those events, and this is a gym (even if it is a small one). I don't really see the worry over those events for sizing, especially Robo-Cross. If you mean for impounding, then that would mostly affect Scrambler because of giant launchers (okay, sure Wheeled COULD have large cars...not necessarily, though). Trust me, though, the person running Scrambler knows how to run it well
. At that, running multiple lanes as you said isn't much of an issue either...unless you know the exact sizing of the gym isn't good? Even then, there may not be much you can do, only so many rooms are open to be reserved for the event. Nonetheless, Robo-Cross of all things wouldn't be the straw to break the camel's back I don't think. Maybe the spectators thing is more of an issue, but how much room is needed for people to walk around? I've been to places where the bleachers weren't out, and spectating really was quite fine. Don't worry too much and just keep working hard to prepare!

I wouldn't call it 'small'. From the pictures it looks like it has a full size basketball court in it. Here in Ohio we regularly run Wheeled Vehicle and Scrambler in hallways and even large classrooms, with enough room for spectators around the periphery. I think there will be plenty of room.kwinks wrote:The venue for Robocross at Nats is a small gymnasium that will also host Wheeled Vehicle, and Scrambler. Same; at Chattahoochee, Wheeled Vehicle was run in a seven-foot wide hallway, and FCS easily ran three events in a basketball court-sized room.chalker wrote:I wouldn't call it 'small'. There was one time at regionals when Battery Buggy was held in a random hallway of minimum specified dimensions, so no one should complain about what they have at Nebraska.Unome wrote:Same; at Chattahoochee, Wheeled Vehicle was run in a seven-foot wide hallway, and FCS easily ran three events in a basketball court-sized room.chalker wrote:I wouldn't call it 'small'. We weren't complaining. We were wondering how that would work. We've never seen that many events hosted in one a location at the same time. They don't set tournaments up that way here.samlan16 wrote:There was one time at regionals when Battery Buggy was held in a random hallway of minimum specified dimensions, so no one should complain about what they have at Nebraska.
