Sorry if I seem a bit touchy on the CyFalls subject, the tournament director (my coach) decided that I should deal with all appeals build related... and I spent a lot of time going back and forth with coaches and rules and ES's that day...
On another note... could someone try and explain the exit times listed on the scrambler wiki? I've taken plenty of physics and math, and it seems like the times posted for a spring type scrambler are higher than the conservation of energy would allow them to be. Also the times for hammer and push-rod launchers don't seem to correspond to the masses. Quadrupling the mass should double the speed, but instead it just goes up by 1/3 or so... I understand there may be losses, but the speed should still be proportionate.
As for the hammer and stuff. You have to think about collisions this is assuming a perfectly elastic collision so you need to change the mass of the car in their scenario. You can also change the time of impact and material to change the type of collision, but that is ignored in their calculations. Though they do seem to be accurate for what it would be if materials for the hammer and the car we're the same and a perfectly elastic collision occurred.
Also I edited the Wiki for the spring launcher.

Thanks Stealther
What do you mean by automatic
It will stop on its own at a certain point

Like iwonder said that would be a wing nut brake system or one of the others on the brake system on the wiki (
http://scioly.org/wiki/index.php/Scrambler#Brakes) and you can add your own upgrades to these systems to make them better.

Thank you for the resource my partner and i shall look into it

Does anyone what is considered a "RIGID" substance for the backstop? Cardboard? Wood? Steel? Styrofoam???

You probably can't use cardboard unless you laminate it. and I would have to say no on the styrofoam.

Why? Styrofoam is rigid. It doesn't bend under it's own weight or the weight of an egg.

Styrofoam seems like a pretty clear violation of the spirit, to me.

Wait, are we talking about the expanded polystyrene packing stuff that's little beads of foam and is really stiff? Or the soft urethane foam that's firm but gives really easy? Yeah, if it gives when the egg hits the wall, that seems like a violation.

Styrofoam is expanded PS. Yes, it is stiff, but it crushes so easily that it would absorb some of the impact force, which is presumably why they want to use it and why I think it shouldn't be legal.
