No, it's hot because of teh amount of insolation and sunlight we get.

well i guess from distance i mean the axial tilt and stuff and during the summer we in the US see the sun "more" than in the winter

so the tilt gives us longer/hotter days???

Well since longer/hotter days are associated with summer, and the reason for teh seasons is the tilt, then yes, the tilt is what gives us teh longer/hotter days.

I didn't say isolation I said INSOLATION, as in INcoming SOLar radiATION.

yup. thats true...ill try to make a picture

......../.........(''S'')
(''E'')
/

ok...ignore the dots. E is obviously earth, S is sun
the slashes is the axis...you can imaging the equator being kinda diagonalish...like that---> \ kinda slanting that way a little
now picture the suns rays....the energy of the rays will be most concentrated where you see the red quotes...so its summmer in the norther hemisphere...the energy will be more spread out on the E <-- that part of the E, resulting in winter in the southern hemisphere

erm....did that make any sense? :?
