As hard as this may be to believe, I got them from Hobby Lobby. We spend time picking through them when they come in on Thursdays. We usually buy around 20.00 worth. Our tower is a 1 piece design which free us from extra glue. Give me your email and I will send you a couple of pictures.

I would assume one piece refers to the construction of the tower, it is probably attached in one piece and not two separate pieces (the base and the top glued together, which would make it "two piece")

And also, do you test for stiffness (young's modulus) when buying your wood?

Well yes we do test for stiffness, but I can kinda tell what wood I want more or less by just looking at it now. With what is available in my area, (not much) you make do with what is there.

You are correct about the construction of the tower. I would love to send everyone pictures, but on the off chance we win or finish second at regionals and move on to state, I am going to wait on posting. I hope everyone can understand! We will be "C" class next year, and the tower we have designed this year is not suited at all to "C". So once we are finished, I will share all. I still want to do it by email though, as our school can still compete next 2 years with it.

So how'd testing go?

Could I give you my email as well? I'm rather curious to see your design.
