Yep! All thermometers lean to the side, especially with the new larger hole this year. So when the thermometer is placed in the box, it will lean over. I was not there when the box was impounded, but I am guessing this is what happened since all three boxes measured <12cm with the thermometer vertical, but >12cm when leaning to the side. I hope that helps to clear it upJoeyC wrote:There is a rule stating that the bottom of the beaker must be less than 12 cm from the top of the hole in your box, in order to allow the thermometer/probe to be read. The above mentioned person is pointing out that it might have been measured inaccurately in their invitational; that the 12 cm was counted instead of vertically, at an angle, so that they would be in violation of this rule.

Any thoughts on the new cotton ball this year? imo I don't think it will make too much of a difference in the heat retention.

I think it will, I mean most of the heat loss is from the hole in the top.ElPotato wrote:Any thoughts on the new cotton ball this year? imo I don't think it will make too much of a difference in the heat retention.

The cotton ball works miracles. It has drastically changed predictions by at least 2*C.

Do you guys build the box out of the foam? If not, what material works best for the exterior of the box?

What cube are u talking about? Also as for your previous question yes, I built my box out of insulation foam. Try not to double post next time.didntstart wrote:Does the competition provide the cube?
