Mitochondria encode their own proteins using transcription and translation processes more similar to prokaryotes. For example, whereas eukaryotic protein sequences always begin with methionine, like prokaryotes, mitochondria and chloroplasts use the less common n-formylmethionine. In addition, cells with mitochondria and chloroplasts removed cannot generate new ones.

Re: Microbe Mission B/C
Yes, you are both right. In addition to the evidence, the DNA lacks histones, the ribosomes are 70S instead of 80S like a normal eukaryote, and many functions are similar to those of other bacteria.
Since Sciduck answered first, you get to go.

Explain Baltimore classification (what it classifies, how, and the groups it divides them into).

Baltimore classification is a way of classifying viruses by their nucleic acid constituents. The seven groups are:sciduck wrote:Explain Baltimore classification (what it classifies, how, and the groups it divides them into).
[Sorry this is so poorly worded]
I. dsDNA
II. ssDNA
III. dsRNA
IV. ssRNA, positive sense, with the template strand being the one read
V. ssRNA, negative sense, with the complimentary strand being read
VI. RNA retroviruses, which use reverse transcriptase
VII. DNA retroviruses, which use RTase

Although groups VI and VII are correct, they are actually called +ssRNA-RT and dsDNA-RTwhythelongface wrote:Baltimore classification is a way of classifying viruses by their nucleic acid constituents. Sorry, I quite forgot. And yes, that is their real name, I just felt like DNA/RNA retroviruses was good enough.sciduck wrote:Correct.
