Without flipping the coins, I wouldn't consider a device competitive...you are certainly doing well with what you have right now, but I would highly recommend focusing on finding a way to flip them

Yeah, I got put into robot arm a week before the invite, so no time to buy or make anything decent. I do plan on looking into some kits after this invitational, and hopefully work on getting the coins flipped soon.

All right, you can't have any of the pennies leave the testing base boundaries. At the invite yesterday, we lost the entire south-west stack because a corner of the stack of pennies went over the tape. We would need another joint on our arm so we could pull the stack inwards before sliding it. I don't know if this should have happened or not, but any penny that went over the outer tape got pulled out.

The rules for Robot Arm define no testing base. Please use the terms Competition Area (defined in 5.) or Device Square (5.a.).

As far as I see the pennies can go anywhere during the run- all that matters is where they are at the completion of the run. If that happens to me I can guarantee an appeal will be filed

Didn't think the wording would make that much of a difference... sorry if I confused anyone. No point trying to file an appeal for me, it was the same for every team, and there is nothing they would be able to do about it. I am not supporting anything, it's just what happened.

Agreed. Nothing that I see that makes the boundary of the competition area make any difference for the judging of pennies.

Yeah, it was our proctors who messed up. They were unexperienced- they actually lost our score sheet and we got last place as a no-show. (Thankfully we got that fixed). They also made a stack as eleven pennies for our B team. I looked at the rule sheet myself and can't find any rule that says that either, and am NOT changing my design for the invite next week. Don't expect it to happen again. You guys know more, probably have gone to invites yourselves. This was a first timer for me.

This is a good learning experience for you and anyone reading this. Know your rules. Have a copy of your rules with you. Respectfully ask the event supervisor to show you in the rules the rule in question. I understand the issue since because the last three times the event was run if something touched outside the competition area it could not score points. The change this year is catching a lot of people who are assuming something based on the rules from previous years.

Thankfully you are running into this problem at an invitational instead of later in the year.

Yeah, this is kind of annoying, but at eastside/stevenson invitational today, our B team ran into the same problem. The event supervisors took out all the coins that left the outer tape. I filed an appeal for them, but did not go myself to the invitational, so was unable to talk to the proctors. Hope this does not happen again in the season
