I agree with your previous sentence, Chalker. I am asking these questions for a group consisting of students and a judge. I am trying to fend off issues before getting to the competition. I wish the rules did not allow for pre-made kits. That would solve most problems. Judges in this category will need to make some tough decisions when pre-made items show up, and they will show up. We have some 3D printed propellers that are sensational. Kids are using Cad and altering found designs, but are unsure if their alterations are enough. I am encouraging them to design original propellers, assuming they really wish to use the 3D printer. They are being very scientific and are really enjoying themselves. Anyway, thanks for your time.

The example in the spec book is very confusing. It makes it look like modifications to the CD are allowed, but then it says they arent. The CD doesn't even seem to be part of the diagram at all.

That's really my fault. The diagram was adapted from one in past years where modifying the CD was allowed and so it shows only the hub. We didn't catch that until too late in the printing process to fix it. Regardless, the purpose of the diagram is to really illustrate the various dimensions, not illustrate the blade assembly construction itself. The rules are very explicit regarding no modifications to the CD.

Here's the debate we always face with regards to pre-made kits: will the majority of the 300+ event supervisors that will be involved this year be able to objectively determine whether something was from a pre-made kit? I personally don't think I could tell be inspection in all situations. So the alternative is to require modifications. Hence, the committee is of the opinion that it is less of a burden to event supervisors to determine whether a modification was made than to determine whether pre-made components were utilized at all.

In my binder I like to keep resistor band color, information on turbines, batteries, and difficult formulas (try to memorize Ohms law and simple formulas like that).

While this is very easy to answer ("no"), the mere fact you are asking it hints that you haven't looked at a copy of the rules yourself. There are a lot of details contained in the rules and you really need to study them closely or else you are likely to end up doing very poorly or even being dq'd at the tournament.

We can not get the wind turbine purchased on Ward's Science to work. It's like the CD attachment is too small, and our Cd's won't clip on to them. We only have 1 coach who coaches 2 teams, and we really don't know how to test our device easily. Suggestions?
