If the dice can be even side up in a goal, they should not have to be on the surface since being in a goal is not being on the surface either.

True, but the dice are not a "scorable object" that goes in a carton, they are supposed to be in the North zone thus will be flat on the floor

True...I guess at most competitions, it will be based upon the event supervisor, but it would be nice to get a clarification anyway...

On another subject, I saw some interesting devices at Texas that I'd like to share:
-LOTS of OWI kits, some modified, some not
-Saw one team with two OWI's, one being modified to be longer and having a PVC tower with a string extending to support the extra - weight
-Two or three lynxmotion kits - seemed decent master-slave system, but not enough practice on the competitors part so didn't do quite well
-2 or 3 Vex kits
-one was scara style with support that attached from the bottom to the elbow joint; its claw "plunged" thus team had hard time picking up small items (*legos, pencils, dice)
- Mine was a derivation from the West Ottawa's robot arm from 2013. I made it simpler and cheaper (replaced some of the metal and servos with less expensive options. Got a 105/110 (apparently one pencil moved a mm out of playing area)

Understood. It would be a good idea if the system at least acknowledged that the comment/question was received. Most systems do that and I still have no idea if mine were actually received.

I'd say if you click the "submit" button, it'll always be received unless something happens to your internet connection, computer, etc. When I competed and submitted questions, I'd be unsure whether the committee hadn't gotten to answer my question or if it was disregarded as a question type they don't answer, so perhaps an email notifying that a question won't be answered would be helpful. But noting how many questions they receive each season, it may be unrealistic to implement.

Any input/opinions on which is the best design for our application? I went with the SCARA.

On that note, what materials are you guys using for your arms? I'm trying to find something that's both strong, light, and reasonably priced, but that last bit is kind of hard to find.
