Re: Amphibians and Reptiles
For me, difficulty wise:
Alligators < Lizards < Frogs < Turtles < Salamanders < Snakes
Turtles are the most fun though.
Difficulty in salamanders and snakes were pretty similar last year. With the changes in lungless salamanders this year, snakes are definitely going to be the most difficult order.

I made my own binder, which helped me learn the event better, but unfortunately, i made it too concise; i had 2 reptiles per page, but not enough information, so it screwed us up at states.
I was like an expert on snakes ,but totally stank at turtles .

Animal Diversity Web is a really good website. I used it a lot when I was working on our binder last year. Definitely try to use more than one resource, though.

Re: Amphibians and Reptiles
My impression is that the Peterson guides are better--they're easier to use and have more information. However, the setback is that at Regionals and State, I don't think you can bring in both the east and west field guides. The Audubon guide has the whole continent in it. I've been meaning to write in for a rule clarification about the eastern and western field guides. Does anyone have more information about that?
