Do you think there will be like aobut 40 materials at nationals?
What else is there to practice for nationals...materials wise?
Any tips?
Materials can be anywhere from mealworms to nothing but the three of you, as it has been in the past years. I'd practice with a wide variety of stuff.
See above.
See above.
Check the wiki. Check soinc.org
EDIT: wait lol, I was thinking about Experimental. The bit about practicing still applies though.

2 years ago: random junk including notecards, pipe parts, binder clips, and stickers
Last year: knex mostly and maybe some tinker toy parts (my memory is a bit hazy) and pipecleaners (I think).

Nats discussion!
I literally only used the fries plate, the tongue depressor, the binder clip, the paperclip, the red stirrer, the coffee lid, the piece of felt, the rubber band, the big marshmallow, the pipe cleaner, the bead, the toothpick, and the bendy cool yellow foam thing with black lines on it, which was the only piece I winged it on since I wasn't sure.
Oh and the reason I didn't finish is because my partner couldn't finish writing the instructions up. Did everyone have that problem? because I got 12th and I literally only used the above materials, which I guess is only 1/3 of the materials presented.
When I sat down, I was like,

.
I'm supposed to use all of these?
My partner's supposed to tell me how to build all of these?
Lol yes that was my first reaction.
My second reaction was, my chair's broken.

OMG knittingfrenzy I think we had the same chair! But I asked her if I could move to a new desk. I thought it would be a lot harder and more complicated, and we practiced with structures that were made out of the same things but more complex. How did you guys do?

Anyone have any tips for working with pipe cleaners? I can never seem to get them right!

Yes,
Maryland's Write It/Do It Central Maryland Regional and State were done with pipe cleaners...
My best tips are to go slowly, and do it carefully--they're hard to reset!

Yep, I moved desks too.
Um, my partner only finished writing instructions for 1/3 of the objects...and I only finished building 1/2 the objects...but we ended up 12th!
Sounds like you guys were well prepared. The Maryland State coordinator didn't pick anything really hard...and we hadn't practiced anything super super hard either...
