Yes, it's worth it, but you have to pick and choose what to read, it's too long to read all of it

For those of us who are completely new to this event, does anyone have advice where to begin? Good resources? What exactly are the questions like? Do I just need to be able to interpret satellite images showing human impact? Do I need to know how the technology works? And all applications? In the NASA tutorial, what sections are most important to study? Please help! And don't worry, I don't live in the same state as any of you. :)

a) Read the thread from the beginning, you are not the first person to ask this.

b) Look at the Remote Sensing Wiki

The ccrs link on the wiki is a good place to start, and you should be able to read through the whole thing. After that parts of the NASA tutorial may be helpful.

Anyone else think Remote Sensing should probably be rotated out soon? getting to become a very repetitive event.

Not necessarily. Road Scholar has been a successful event for a long time. I enjoy Remote, I think it's a unique event and I don't see what it would be replaced with if it was to be rotated out.

Well its been event for quite some time, and it seems to be a really repetitive topic, and Sci Oly is about mixing it up.

Well, you could argue the same thing for WIDI, or Anatomy, or Ecology, or Experimental Design. Every experiment has constants, so should Science Olympiad.

Many events in SO are events that specialize in some area; Remote Sensing is no different. I think I can safely say that I'll never use Anatomy in my life (though it is the one event I'll refuse to do, maybe that's a bad argument). Or maybe I won't use Ornithology in my life. But for Remote Sensing, now that's something I could be interested in. It monitors the human impact on the environment, a situation that is developing and could be very important in the coming years. Anatomy's been around forever- but Remote Sensing? That's going to be a critical area very soon.
