Thanks! Hey one more question, has anybody taken the state solar system test yet? Was there a lot on planetary geology? And by planetary geology, what do they mean? Is it hard?

We took ours today.

It varies by state, but in VA we had a lot of random questions on random topics, like how the SS was formed and rotation questions. So be prepared!

A good SS test usually delves into planetary geology, including tectonics, magnetism, volcanism, heat from decay, and atmospheric properties mostly because the only way to separate teams by depth of knowledge is to hone in on the details pertaining to certain planets. The person who writes the national event enjoys testing on planetary geology, and has written two events almost completely on the surface and characteristics of Mars.
2010 Nationals:
Solar System: 1st
Dynamic Planet: 1st
Compute This: 2nd
Experimental Design: 6th
Pentathlon.... : 17th

Paul J. Gelinas: 3rd

Formerly Uranium235, account got screwed over mysteriously.

Great description, that was like our test :P
So you really need to know a wide range of topics, not just the basics and vocabulary.

Are most of the questions theoretical (calculating+Laws) or factual information (distances, mass, etc) or something else?

From what I have seen, most questions will be about factual information, but I have heard about questions that require calculations (and seen one or two of those questions).

There are a few practice tests for solar system on the test exchange which you can get to by clicking the icon labeled "Wiki". Another alternative is to make your own test which will take a few days, but no one except you would be able to know the answers before taking the test.
