My guess is that since seeds contain nutrients that a young plant would need to survive, seeds allow plants a longer time to develop root systems to get water. Just a guess.

What would be sufficient enough for information for the MMR? (mesozoic marine revolution)
I have what it was, what organisms were affected and how they were affected, their behavior before and after the MMR.
I don't know what to add, and to finalize our binder ONe DaY before comp would be great!
I hope we do better at Jeffrey Trail... :D (by getting 1st or 2nd)

Thank you so much!

Not exactly what I was looking for...
I just need info on the MMR and don't know if I have enough, but thanks!
I have used all those sources for our binder too, but for other documents, I will take the advice I got from you!
:D

Tbh, I can’t really see ES asking anything more than what you have, at least I haven’t seen it on a test thus far. You may want to know when it was (I mean obviously in the Mesozoic lol but like what periods/ how many mya).
Good luck at your invy!

Honestly, I think this forum has helped me a lot and I kind of owe it to the people who have helped me answer questions that I am not sure of.
I've placed at Fossils at 2/3 invys (3rd at Mesa, 6th today at Jeffrey Trail), and we're moving forward into regionals.
I am honestly surprised that they tested on phylogenetic trees on this invy and had no questions about extinctions... I wonder why.
I replaced the old anatomy and added some new stuff in our binder this time, but since my brain died from my other events, I didn't see the name "William Buckland"(although I added it) and we got three questions wrong due to that error.

Questions/Thoughts:
There were a lot of HEAVY based BONE structures of dinosaurs as well as other organisms as well for their anatomy. How do you guys think that we should do this for bone stuff? (ex: saurischian or ornithischian)
Also, how would you recommend organizing the binder and flipping through it really fast? (Our stations were only three minutes long, and we also had to take into account about our walking time as well because that would be part of the time that we had left for that station, but I started writing as fast as I could when we got to the next station)
Any tips for flipping, timing, and writing?

Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
I can not be more grateful for the people that help me do so much better each time! <3

Sincerely,
Emily

The distinction between Saurischian and Ornithischian is extremely important, and some good resources for that are here: https://ucmp.berkeley.edu/diapsids/dinomm.html The types of skulls also appear quite frequently on tests, so be sure to have some diagrams and facts. Binder tabs help a lot, although you will have to make custom ones due to the increased size of sheet protectors. I just folded up some paper and stapled that to the binder separators. Flip with two hands in the sort of way that dogs dig.

Congrats on 6th Emily! I coach fossils for my son's group and they said that test was hard. The 3 minute stations was a killer. They also have concerns now about their binder and making it faster to flip through. We are even thinking about redoing some pages to give Phylum overviews instead of just 1 page per fossil. If you think of anything that can help or if we come up with anything we will share! Good luck at Regionals. We are in the Inland Empire, so we won't see you guys again this season. I hope you can get a top spot at Regionals! We were 23rd in Fossils at Jeffrey Trail.

ChimpLopez wrote: January 19th, 2020, 2:13 pm Speaking of the 2 inch binder limit according to the rules, how much do event supervisors actually care? My partner and I downsized our binder A LOT to fit this new limit this year, and we have yet to run into an event supervisor who cares about the limit. Like I have seen some teams walk in with MASSIVE binders, clearly over the limit, but the supervisors seem to be all good with it. Have you guys experienced this too? just me? :?:
At each invitational the proctors have all said something to each of our teams, except the past weekend b/c we finally just went out and bought new binders for everyone so there was no one they could say anything to us! Last year we had plenty of room. This year we are squeezing that 2inch limit. But we also use page protectors which causes a bit of bulk. I guess we could save on space and take them out if need be.

If you can't find info, the proctors can't. ;)
Great advice!! LOL
