I only picked those two because Random Person has them in his signature. Really, I'm interested in whatever you remember and care to tell me. Do you know the scores of any of the building events, for example? What was FMs efficiency for the bridge?

The Astronomy test was really easy, the fact I got 9th surprised me, I'm quite sure I messed up on the shorter math section, but other than that I though I did okay. The other teams must've just done well as well.

The Dynamic Test was epic fail on my part, I just simply wasn't prepared enough, and the test was much harder than any practice test I found online, the biggest thing is I didn't have enough time to check over all my work. *shrugs*

Our bridge did really bad, no joke, efficiency of around 500. There was a break in one of our legs that never happened during testing, I'm pretty sure there was a weak spot in the wood there. The fact I got 5th despite this shows you how terrible the rest of the bridges were, the majority of them used very thick (1/4" +) size wood, I saw one using a sheet of wood over its top, another using I think particle board? Another was drenched in wood glue. I'm not sure what the other top scoring bridges had their efficiencies at, I'll try and find out how FM Team I did later.

Edit:

Why so surprised?

Edit 2: You can see the one using a sheet of wood over its top in this video, and then one other which looks to not even meet specs:

What was that thing? It looks like a roof. Were they expecting rain?

Your Sumo looks tough - fast and low.

What was amusing was that the kid who built it built it for tryouts during mid November, and only had changed the ramp since. It was able to move a trash bin around our gym  It was also under the weight limit by a decent amount as well.

...Yeah it won on a landslide.

I'm pretty sure the kids on anatomy are new to the team this year, so that may explain it.

The fact that you say an efficiency of 500 is "really bad" shows that you come from a school with some formidable tech. 500 isn't great, sure, but it's not terrible, particularly at the Regional level- as apparently you saw, since you got 5th with it. At least in Eastern Long Island- I don't know anything about Mid-State- it isn't uncommon for tech events, particularly balsa tech, to be both terrible and completely out of specs. I remember when I did Towers in 7th grade, and several teams brought bridges instead of towers  One team brought a plywood box- no joke, seriously like a crate- about 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide each way, with a hole in the top to accommodate the loading block. Regionals + tech =/= impressive.

C division is a lot tougher, but it is true that in ELI B division in some of the tech events all you have to do to medal is be in spec. Gold and silver are usually pretty good, but it tends to fall off fast after that.

Does anyone know what will happen to the Eastern Long Island Regional competition due to the snow on February 6th? Will it get moved to February 7th, or next week?

The contingency plan is for the 27th. The 13th and 20th are in a vacation week for most schools, I believe.
