Hey, in the middle of fossils at state one of the teams said
"what the heck is a trilobite?"
lols. one team at my regionals for a bio event actually raised their hand and asked what a phylum was...i was cracking up so hard
everyone on my team knows what a phylum is...whether they were doing that event or not.
for fossils, the team behind us was like "whats a gastropod? oh whatever, lets just say its not a gastropod. its not a stem...(i think they were referring to a crinoid stem)...and then they called time and the team was like "what!?" i only heard that cuz my partner and i were long finished with our station
then at station like 12/20ish the same team was like "yes! finally! we got one question right!" (that station had an internal mold of a bivalve and asked for either the phylum or class:mollusca/bivalvia and the mode of preservation:internal mold)
afterwards i asked a random team member if they knew what a gastropod was. she said "yeah, its like a snail right?" and she wasnt even on fossils. i felt really bad for both teams.
