oh my goodness. we had about an 8 hour bus ride to get to an invitational earlier this year. we got onto the bus to come home right after the award ceremony, and we were all exhausted, but too dehydrated to sleep. luckily, one of our coaches passed back about 3 bottles of water for us, and as soon as we had some water in us, my friend and i napped for a little bit (about three hours), and when we woke up, we started singing. we sang 99 Armadillos On the Wall. for a while, a whole bunch of people sang along, but soon people got bored. we kept singing though, and when we got down to 10 armadillos, everyone got really excited and sang along with us. when we finished the song, everyone cheered and was all like "thank the Lord!" my friend and i calmly waited for the applause to stop, and then we sang, "negative 1 armadillos on the wall, negative one armadillos! you take one down..." that was about the time that people started throwing things at us. i personally recommend sleeping, singing (but be careful what you sing!), playing M.A.S.H. or another game like that, or watch a movie on a portable DVD player. sometimes though, the bus is too loud. if that's the case, it'd probly be best to turn off the volume and put in your own script. we did that on the same bus ride that i just talked about, and that turned out hilarious! just do something with the rest of your group/team, and things turn out amazing!

I've never had to take a bus in SO. [we've only been to states and invites] but last year i went on a 7 hour bus ride to quebec with half of my grade.. we talked most of the time. you could bring a portable DVD player, go on the internet on your phone, play random games, oh and eating food was pretty popular too.

haha...well those who feel like it start annoying people. others eat. others listen to their ipods. but a lot of us make up random SO jokes and predict how bad we're going to do. and others go through their whole schedule, makes sure their partner knows it/what to do, and goes through a bunch of information in their head for their events and makes sure that nothing is missing (goggles, refernce material, etc.)

On SciO bus rides, we always play MASH, Truth or Dare, etc. (it helps that we're all pretty close friends), and just generally act stupid in the back of the bus (on the way back from Invitationals, people wouldn't stop poking and tickling me, so I ended up wedged under one of the seats trying to fend them off with my feet. They responded by stealing my shoes >.<).

the best thing to do on the way down is SLEEP (which is hard for use people on High Schooler because we have 25 Middle Schoolers on the Same bus that will never stop talking!!!)
on the way back we always tell jokes and sing (horribly)
WOW I almost forgot on the way down to State we stop to watch an I-Max movie (has to be science related though they all were horrible). So we decided to all bring DVD players for the bus ride an watch good movies (last year we watched Rambo and this year we are thinking of bringing Tropic Thunder, The Dark Night, and Fight Club anyone have any other suggestions?)
