Photos of successful towers. Note that bracing is different on each.Random Human wrote:Hey can anyone post some pictures of high scoring tower so I can compare my tower and get some ideas to building towers.

Those towers have different forces though. Those towers are meant to resist lateral tension, while our Science Olympiad towers are meant to resist downward compression. The designs of teach tower would be different.

Re: Pictures, Videos, and Scores
To be honest, I don't think the people making those tower were really concerned about the weight of the tower- meaning they have an infinite supply of STEEL to use and pretty much don't even have a challenge having the tower go under downwards compression- these were designed to keep wind from blowing the tower over.
So with this being said
Does anyone have any photos of high scoring towers in the competition?

I'm sure thought goes into efficiency (i.e. weight of tower, amount of material used). Regardless, if you aren't sure where to start, why not start with a tower inspired by the designs posted but without the extraneous components? This is science--experiment and share your findings!Random Human wrote:To be honest, I don't think the people making those tower were really concerned about the weight of the tower- meaning they have an infinite supply of STEEL to use and pretty much don't even have a challenge having the tower go under downwards compression- these were designed to keep wind from blowing the tower over.

I have built a couple towers but the issue now is I want some photo of scioly towers so I can get some ideas to improve my tower and compare mine to yours. Find my flaws and improve myself.bernard wrote:I'm sure thought goes into efficiency (i.e. weight of tower, amount of material used). Here's an example of a Tower more suited to this year's rules:windu34 wrote:This is a good oneRandom Human wrote:I have built a couple towers but the issue now is I want some photo of scioly towers so I can get some ideas to improve my tower and compare mine to yours. Thanks for posting your tower.
My question now is: How much did that tower weigh and how much did it hold. Also, what division are you in?
