Just saying, this is science olympiad, not pseudo-science olympiad. They will never ask for 'healing powers' on a test (unless it's a REALLY bad test), although you can find it for every mineral if you look for it. Try to keep the pseudo-science off of the forums please.

Garnet is NY's gemstone. It is mainly used as an abrasive; in the US, it is mostly used for waterjet cutting. It is good for this purpose because it is hard (6.5 - 7.5 Mohs scale) and has sharp edges when broken for sanding and cutting. Occasionally used for filtration due to small pores/high specific gravity.
