Plus there's always a chance that teams will complain about their tests being graded unfairly/wrong which could cause some annoying problems. Probably a lot easier (and more realistic to complete in like 5 hours) to organize everything without giving the tests back, though I'll admit it would be nice to be able to see your mistakes.

i kinda like the fact that you dont know the top score thats prevents you from totally being discruaged (a 1290? i cant beat that) and they make you do as best a you can.

but sometimes in a new event, you dont know what to aim for. I thought a 600 eff boom was OK and when we went to comp i was just WOW!!! 1000??? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??

It helps to know as many event supervisors as possible, because you can get a copy of your test and better prepare for the next year's competitions.

Yeah, the junior high coach in our district almost always runs rocks and minerals and fossils at states, so we get to see how we did on those. I guess, though, people usually remember the questions they had no idea on (like "whats a chalaza?" from food science) and then they can look it up later.
