Both my parents (well before they met each other) were at the International Chemistry Olympiad in I think Bucharest in '80-something. I've never really asked them about the language issues involved, or how they qualified, but maybe now I will

Note that the people on these teams may live in the U.S., but the participant's true ethnicities may be Asian or Western European/Russian. Here is one of the examples: US Physics Olympiad team 2008 - Tucker Chan, Edward Gan, Joshua Oreman, Danny Zhu, and Rui Hu.
