Re: Scrambler B
Does anyone have suggestions as to how my partner and I can initiate our ETV? This year's rules state that an unsharpened number 2 pencil must actuate a release mechanism or be incorporated into the machine so when removed the mass will begin to fall? (Scrambler 2016 Rule 2g)

Here's what I used last year: http://i.imgur.com/qjzH4P6.jpg. There's a loop of wire threaded around the hole in the cotter pin, and the pencil goes in that loop and is used to pull it out. Feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear.shs-scioly-E wrote:Does anyone have suggestions as to how my partner and I can initiate our ETV? Re: Scrambler B
I'm not quite sure I understand. Would it be possible for you to provide a diagram? I am currently experimenting with a normal pulley launcher but I'd like to consider a spring launcher as well. Thanks!bernard wrote:Yes, I can't find any pictures of my device on my computer so a video will have to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKisLACH9fU. The eyebolts at the front left and right of the launcher have a single loop threaded through both. The falling mass pulls on the loop, and that moves the car. Since it's a spring launcher, the spring (rubber band) returning to its relaxed position makes the loops a little tight, so it doesn't touch the ground in the end. If you have the Scrambler CD, there's a picture on it that matches this design, I think it's Solon Middle School's device.LAndrus wrote:Has anyone come up with a way to meet rule 2h with regards to a string touching the ground AFTER it launches the ETV?

Re: Scrambler B
Do you have masses? They can be taped together. Two years ago we used two 1 kg masses taped together--got us too close to the 2 kg maximum though. Last year we used a PVC pipe sealed on both ends with caps, filled with sand, rocks, and water. If you're careful you can pack it all tightly in the pipe, so nothing inside is shifting around--could help with consistency, possibly. I've seen teams place rocks in plastic jars, metal pellets in jars, etc. Whatever you do, avoid getting too close to the maximum, because if your supervisor's scale reads it as more than 2.000 kg, you might have to make adjustments before you're allowed to compete. I think last season I went with around 1.900 kg--the supervisor's scale would have to be pretty off for our weight to exceed the max.SluffAndRuff wrote:What object do you guys recommend to use for the 2 kg weight?
