So, about the new rules stating that there will be a weighted can in the middle of the track... What is the minimum/maximum weight that the can can be?

It is an engineering challenge. Start at a given point, go around the can and end up as close as possible to the finish point. Combine that with speed as a significant factor and you have a set of tradeoffs to make if your design is not really good.

So the can is straight up in the middle, and the plan is to go onto the side, whiout leaving the track, and try not to hit it?

Hmmmm, I'm glad I retired from B this year as to not have to deal with this! We had enough trouble making our car go straight!
Obviously, I would guess this mean one of the axles isn't permanently in a straight position, and is pushed in a direction once the axle has revolved a certain amount. Have like a know in the rope around the axle that hits a lever, etc.
I don't know if that was blatantly obvious, hope it didn't seem condescending since I'm not doing it anymore.

Has anyone found a mechanism for this? I think I have, soon I'll build a prototype.

It's the same thing as scrambler, from a quick glance over the rules. I see two options.
A) since you can contact it, just push it along and I think it's fine(?)
B) since it's in the middle of the track, it's a constant arc (see the drawing in scrambler. All you have to do is adjust your vehicle once when you start, and that's it. It doesn't need to change how it's turning during the run.

Could you build the vehicle such that it passes over the can without running into it? Or would that not count as going "around" it?

By the looks of it, that would be accepted. From what I've read, you don't have to go around the can; you can go through it too (whether building around it or pushing it out of the way).
