Re: Science Olympiad History
So, how DO they decide what events will be next year? Or the year after that? How far ahead of time do they decide these things?
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Re: Science Olympiad History
For the study/lab events, I think they have a rotation schedule (Although Astronomy's been Variable Stars for forever
). I think it's similar for building events, but they can work off the "schedule" a little bit.

Re: Science Olympiad History
They used to have a rotation, but it only seemed to be a suggestion. It was never followed. I can't find it anymore, so maybe they've scrapped it.

Re: Science Olympiad History
I believe it probably still exists, but they've decided not to make it public since it's not followed exactly.

Re: Science Olympiad History
The Sunday after nationals, since everyone is still in town I suppose, the group of important people in SO get together and have a meeting to talk about the next year's events. This is generally when they vote out old events (people were always talking about how close the vote for MP was) and try to decide which new ones will come in. Then the next few months are spent tweaking the rules and presumably talking about things over an email list, until they finally call it final and send the rules to print sometime in August.

Re: Science Olympiad History
There are events that do have a predictable rotation though. It always goes Rocks and Minerals ---> Fossils -----> Rocks and minerals
Bugs---->Herpetology------>Birds------>Forestry------>Bugs
Rivers----->Glaciers------>Oceans------>Volcanoes and Earthquakes----->?
