Is there any way that division b teams could compete?

We would love to host a Division B tournament as well, but various factors precluded our doing so this year, including but not limited to:
  • 1) This is our first year hosting an invite, so we will want to see how things go before considering hosting Division B.
  • 2) Scheduling and time constraints for both the University and students.
  • 3) There are liability issues with having middle school students competing on campus.
  • 4) Attendance and turnout concerns, as some B schools may not have the resources to travel beyond their boundaries into New Haven to compete.
Hopefully, things go smoothly with C this time around and we can see if adding in B is a possibility. Stay tuned!

I think this is a great idea and I wish you nothing but great luck with the invitational. The more opportunities for everyone to participate and compete the better!

Hey guys!

Hope your summers (oh wait, you're still in high school...) have been going well so far. Many thanks for all the interest you've expressed in our tournament. We're flattered!

Our brand new official website was just launched at http://yuso.yale.edu.

Check it out and let us know what you think. Lots of hard work was put into designing it and writing the content. :P

Best wishes for everything!

This looks awesome! Since the cost is $125 per team, does that mean it includes the National membership fees and that the top 6 teams will get medals? We're really excited!

We aren't responsible for officially registering any teams into National SO, so no, the $60 membership fee still has to be done with your home state, as it says on the site. But yes, of course the top 6 teams will get medals! Why run a competition without awards? Glad to hear you're excited!

That's really expensive. I don't know if my team can pay that much just for an invitational. Is there a way to make it cheaper?

Oh, it's not that bad. If all of the students' parents chip in, what, $10? That's fairly easy. It's definitely worth it; in hindsight, I know that I would have probably done much better on my events if we had gone to invitationals.
