If our team was in any other state, we'd be pretty much guaranteed to go to Nationals every year. It seems like we (Mentor High) often tend to get 3rd, trailing behind only Centerville and Solon.
You know that the ceremonies are generally open to anyone. You might consider a road trip to Wright State for the weekend to get a feel for the event. We also are holding the roller coaster demo event on Friday that is open to Ohio teams, so you could potentially compete in that if there are spots still available.

Be sure that your alarm clock is not set to weekdays only  You can't be successful in an event if you miss it! Last year, I almost missed impound––if I hadn't been able to make it, we wouldn't have medaled!

That's always a possibility. I could get a feel for nationals to get me ready for next year (being hopeful), and I'd be able to cheer on one of our middle schools. And that roller coaster event sounds really fun. I think our captains gave first dibs to the builders on our team to do it, and since I only do 1 build event, I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it. Good luck to everyone going, and you guys will see Mentor High at nationals next year! :D

Would someone explain more how the swap works? I read that each team has a team table, but what happens at the table if everyone is going around trading? Do the swap items stay at the table, or do you carry them around the room with you in a bag or something? Thank you, Sci O experts!

You bring your own items around with you to trade, and you can donate some items to the team table, where items also sit. Some people will stay at the table to trade with people that come around, while others on the team walk around with items looking for trades at other team tables

I met the Japan teams last year several times...every time was incredibly awkward, because they didn't speak English and we didn't speak Japanese, and I happened to be with some of the craziest and most utterly insane people on the planet.

That was your cheerleader's fault, and you know it.
