I saw your comment and started freaking out. It was there my freshman year and I didn't do it and now this entire year I've been dying to.

Obviously it is really early but, based upon the Summer Institute the events for 2014 are below.

My reaction was the same, except I was freaking out more, I'm sure. I did do it freshman year, and it is the best. event. ever. I didn't think that it was going to return for another 2 years, and that I wouldn't be getting another chance to do it. I am soooo excited for it (presuming they do keep it for next year...if they got rid of it now, I would probably die). Too bad you really need the rules to start working on it.

I am a freshman ... but Mission Possible does seem interesting! Although I'm really sad that Forestry's cycling out ... D:

I bet they are getting rid of Remote Sensing next year and replacing it with GeoMapping.

Pftttt. Everyone knows Geomaps is the best event on Earth :P (ah, remember the good ol' times when we did that together). My only issue is that once you master aspects of the event I feel like everyone becomes REALLY close on it. Like at states, I talked to 18th place and 4th place, and we were all somewhat similar minus 1 or 2 out of the 5 pages. But that was because those pages were insanely tough in comparison (which again shows the imbalance in difficulty).

Also, to make it harder they added a random landform ID, which favored the people who were doing Dynamic (it was about glaciers mostly). Though, I would imagine just to mess with everyone they'd add a remote aspect to it (which would be completely doable). Pretty much, it is at this point to me "know all of geology." I don't mind that...but I wouldn't mind at least a slight revision (though, this year's rules was a vast improvement over last year's).

I'd love to do Geo Mapping if I was still in high school! It should be fun, even if it is slightly difficult. :)

I mean, it was way more fun when I actually started to understand how aspects of it worked (and if you can't find sources you'd probably panic hehe). But I still found the aspects I said to be somewhat annoying.
