It's also different this year though. Because it was a trial event, it was tough to find supervisors for it. Therefore, it was not run very well. Also, it was a different topic and probally easier physical tasks also.

It seemed like with my team the academic tasks were causing problems. The academic tasks that we had were: Find the length and width of a table, pour x mL of water into a graduated cylinder, find the density of a cube, find the temperature of water, and then the group one, which i was running, was to build a pyramid using 4 blocks. Almost every single group spent the max 2 minutes at each academic station. For the most part the physical part was no challenge except for one group that spent 7 minutes trying to throw a ping pong ball into 1 of 3 jars from 6 or 7 feet away.

The challenge with the ping-pong ball sounds much more difficult than anything that I saw. At my regional tournament, I know that the topic for the academic questions was general science. These questions were more like, What is the Metric unit of Weight? I don't know exactly how this worked with a time limit because it only takes a second to respond to a question like that. The academic tasks you described are very different than the ones I saw so I don't really think I could even give you an estimate of time.

What the heck do u mean by timing? Also, has anyone competed in the event yet? I know that some people's regionals is this weekend, but others might have had theirs already.

First of all, there aren't any regionals until at least Febuary.

When this event was a trial, they would ask a QUESTION and you would have to give an answer and if you were wrong, you would get another question. Now, it is more of a TASK, where it is not as though know the fact, but i think you have to DO something. At least that was my impression.

But last year Pentathlon was only a trial right? So there might be harder academic & physical challenges this year.

There could be harder challenges, but the trial rules were just as unspecific as these except this has examples. So i think it will just depend on the event supervisor and how he/she interprets the rules.

Oh.
