If anyone's impatient for the unofficial results, here it is for division C: http://i.imgur.com/j2wt6G3.jpg?2
Wondering if anyone has division B :P

I could have done better
I made some modifications in the morning and that made the loading block situate awkwardly on my boomilever, slightly resting on the tension members. As a result, the glue bond let go.
When closing my Keep the Heat device, the lid unattached to the box. This lowered my heat retention, different from my prediction.
For Write it, Do it, my partner didn't build half the things and we still placed 3rd :D
And Metric Mastery...the stations were quite strange...

How'd you guys do?

Congrats to everyone, it was a fun tournament.

Boom didn't go that well because I failed to make strong connections at the distal end, so one of the tension members sheared off at about 2 kilos. During gravity, one wheel fell off while we were setting up for our 2nd run, so we had to spend extra time repairing it. As a result we didn't get our 2nd run in because we ran out of time. Rocks went well though.

Also it was nice meeting you nejanimb.

Pleasure to meet you as well. Definitely a good event, and the step up in competition from Charlottesville was noticeable.

Looks like TJ ran away with it. Going 2-3-4 in my event and having seen their labs, its not hard to understand how. Are Fairfax and Langley going to do a better job preparing for States?

I seem to recall TJHSST winning regionals over Langley and Fairfax last year too, but then falling to third place at state behind those two teams. I wonder why this is. Simply Langley/Fairfax buckling down between regionals and state? Or something more complex?

I heard from my school that TJHSST had 6 members in their team but I feel like the rumor's a lie... I looked back at the 2012 regional chart and there's 3 teams for TJHSST. But, I think the top 3 (Fairfax, TJHSST, Langley) are roughly equal in last year's scoring because 1st place and 3rd place are 12 points apart.

Ugh...I hate how Longfellow just dominates division B.

My impression is that TJ has, on average, the smartest group of kids (being the #1 high school in the country helps significantly with that), and they do very well at regionals based on raw talent. They also are competing the hardest at regionals, since they use it as their intramural qualifier, and those students are hyper-competitive with each other. TJ starts out with a huge team (50 something, seemingly), and then cut it down later in the season.

Langley and Fairfax, on the other hand, have more traditional programs and benefit more from having time during the season to continue practicing and developing. They all blow off regionals, because it isn't a qualifying event in VA and they all can treat it much more like teams in other more competitive states treat their invitational events. Makes sense, especially considering at regionals schools can bring multiple teams.

Yeah, but I doubt we'll dominate this time around.

Does anyone happen to know the top Elastic Launched Glider times at the Kilmer regional tournament (division C)?
