Re: Texas 2013
My friend (who is in Science Olympiad) is kinda sorta moving to Texas and wanting to start an SO team at his school, and I promised I'd do some research for him. But some questions can't be answered by just browsing the Internet.
FOR EXAMPLE:
How stiff is the competition in Texas?
How impossible would it be for a first year team to win State?
And any other things you can tell me about SO in Texas.

Re: Texas 2013
I would say that it would be very much improbable for a team to win in the first year, from my experience the competition is very stiff. Of course, in their second year of competition seven lakes placed 2nd at states(which qualifies for nats)

Re: Texas 2013
Are you looking more for info on B or C? Either way, the competition in Texas is very difficult. Considering there are both B and C teams that have placed in the top ten at Nats as well many teams that would be competitive at Nats that don't make it. I wouldn't expect to do well as a new team in the first year, but if they put the work in they can certainly be up there in their second or third year. Though making it to State is definitely not that difficult, as long as you don't go to the same regional as the best teams.foreverphysics wrote:My friend (who is in Science Olympiad) is kinda sorta moving to Texas and wanting to start an SO team at his school, and I promised I'd do some research for him. Oh, and regarding the invite schedule. We'll post the schedule once there's a proctor for every event, so get those registration forms in!

You're coming to the Dallas regional?
Our chances of making it to state for the first time (at the high school level) have just shrunk.

I'll take that as a compliment
I think it's just us and Clements as major teams there, it's still possible for you to beat at least one of us.

Harryk, does gulf coast = galveston? That might be an interesting regional, if so.
