Actually, I do recall that I've read somewhere that colleges emphasize depth of extracurricular involvement because they know a test score is just that - a measure of how well you did on one four-hour sitting. So I'd say that stellar Science Olympiad achievement might be able to make up for a poor test score. And... good to know I've been spending a majority of my free time for a 'relatively minor' achievement or two.
I don't mean to be rude, honestly; don't be offended. I'm just saying that I really do enjoy Science Olympiad, but I'd like to be recognized for my accomplishments. Everyone would.

Having said that, it doesn't hurt to be able to take advantage of the hard work you put into your events. Making the event names more serious-sounding wouldn't detract from the content of Science Olympiad; it would simply add another benefit to what is already the most awesome activity there is.
Completely and totally agreed.

Yeah, didn't they give full rides to gold medalists at Urbana-Champaign?
And on a different note, I support the more professional-sounding event names... I've been lucky so far with Fossils and Anatomy, but I would be wary of how colleges/etc. would see "State Medalist in Write It Do It" or something similar, because quite honestly that sounds a bit silly (despite the fact that it's actually impressive).
And on an entirely different note, I still have the bad habit of calling Thermodynamics "Keep the Heat". I'm actually not sure whether I'll be able to shake that one, because I keep making that mistake and confusing the freshmen...
