You are correct that that is significant. However, I made a sequencing mistake. The clue is correct now. Consider yourself lucky, mistakes and hints such as these will not happen often. Carry on.

The corrected number sequence from the last character of each line is: 278395641. My guess is that the answers have to be rearranged in accordance with the numbers so that the numbers would be arranged in numerical order. The alternative to that is that the answers are arranged in numerical order and need to be put into the order given by the numbers, but first the answers need to be found.

Does anybody have any other ideas about the clue?

I think these all relate to colleges and their marching bands.
As for the omitted words, I think it's All-American Marching Band for both, LSU for "The LSU Tigers", don't know about the Pride of Oklahoma, but if I were to guess, it would still be marching band, Big Red, and don't know for ECU Pirates.

As for the sequencing, maybe we take the letter from the name of the university. /me goes to work.

Something about a voice screaming over the phone the names of marching bands is amusing to me. Carry on.

EDIT: I think we arrange them in the order 278395641, with the one marked with "1" first, "2", second, etc?
