Since we go to a few invitationals, it depends on who does best there. Everyone chooses their own events and their partners, and everyone gets to go to the invitationals. After the last invitational, the coach decides the final 15 based on what will give us the best shot. It was harder to do in middle school when we had 60+ people, but we had 16 this year in high school. It really sucks to just cut one person.

Our coaches made up tests for all the study events and would place us based on those. For build events our tech teacher would look at the prototypes and decide from there, but the lab events were basically toss-ups.

Invitationals. Then I pick.
No joke.
Well, captain picks.
We normally cut like 5 people max though...

We're a homeschool team. We've got a C team of 11 kids (or is it 10?) and a B team of 12 or 13. We have "underaged" kids on both teams (we've had 8 year olds at state on B and 12 year olds at state on C...). It's a bit embarrassing to remind the youngest kids that b's go this way and d's go that way for written tests...aubrey048 wrote:Us too! xDhscmom wrote:In all honesty we take anyone with a pulse.
Really the only person on the whole team who's science-obsessed is me. One other girl is interested, but the rest of the team is made up of my friends who are not really nerds or "science people" at all.
We're still waiting for our first senior. That should be in 2012-13.

Our team takes tests, and usually whoever does better on the test competes in that event.

Yeah, we do that too, but sometimes if the top-scoring person in one test only has one or two events, we take the highest scoring person that does a reasonable number of events.
I win.

For ourselves (no offense but our coach doesn't do anything,,, she's just a sponsor,,)...
so we select our captains each year (actually selected by coach,,, and we had 3 this year)
and basically they figure out who's better and what sort of thing and how to balance people out
in their best events after having (city tournament, invitationals, and regionals)
For invitationals and regionals we make 2 teams (if we had more people,,, it'd been 3?)
and based on the previous 'work' we kind of make one of the team heavily weighted
so that we don't FAIL regionals,, (which is stupid because we always end up getting 1st and 2nd)
and then the captains decide the final members.
and then trial event people,,, -.-

Tests, events we take, and choosing. Not many people do it at my school so we have the competitive team and those who want to compete but did not make team A go to team B.
