Re: Fossils B/C
my dislikes were that they always gave questions with both exogyra and gryphaea. i find it pretty simple to distinguish them apart, but at times it just gets so annoying.

Yeah, it's annoying. I did fossils at invitationals last year because I love it so much, and they had a question on those. I couldn't tell them apart. (I was out of practice.)

Re: Fossils B/C
being brutally honest, i would much rather have this event be like ornithology; i do not think one necessarily needs 100 pages of notes. i dont think that fossils should have a binder, maybe 5 pages, like remote sensing. really, the biggest part about fossils is identification; you dont (or rather, shouldnt) need a binder for that.

I think the binder is good, and we don't need it gone. Maybe 5 pages would work, but I think that the way it is is best.

Re: Fossils B/C
in my opinion, fossils is rather an identification event. the information you need really need could probably fit on 5 pages, and this time a field guide would be put to better use. or even make your own field guide.

Make your own field guide- binder?
I think that for identification, you could do 5 pages. But there is a lot of stuff to cover here- would you like to memorize the geologic time chart?
fossils is not an identification event- ID plays a big part in it, but it is called an Earth Science event for a reason.

Re: Fossils B/C
Uh, no, Naps, it's most definitely an identification event. A huge majority of the test is built around identifying specimens and then answering questions on them. General fossil/earth science questions are few and far between in this event; he's not wrong in saying you can fit all the earth science info you need in 5 pages. The important part is getting info on the specimens.paleonaps95 wrote:Make your own field guide- binder?

Okay, I concede. But still- the idea of making your own field guide is a binder, right?

exactly. and by the way, i did memorize the geologic time chart. with a nifty mnemonic device.gneissisnice wrote:Uh, no, Naps, it's most definitely an identification event. Re: Fossils B/C
So how long every period, era, epoch and eon lasted, with major events and mass extinctions? I memorized the periods (without a mnemonic- I don't really like them. I find I'm more likely to forget the song than be helped), but there is other stuff I like to have.
