Nationals is held where our states are every year, and I would definitely suggest Dorms. Most hotels aren't very close to the university, but the dorms are within 2 or 3 blocks of the main quad. I don't think there are any hotels within walking distance of the campus. Breakfast is not a problem at all, since in the two blocks next the quad, there is every type of food you will ever want (subway and dunkin donuts through jamba juice and starbucks). Dorms are also more convenient to store building events, since they give you an extra room just for storage, and the hotels nearby are cramped.

Also, about common rooms, it really depends on the hotel, for example, a very large Marriott has a huge lobby that runs the entire length of the hotel, a large computer lab, and common areas on each of its five floors, but this year, we stayed in a much smaller hotel and its common room was a 10 by 10 room...

We're staying in dorms! Because, um. Well, I'm not sure why, but we are. :3

I like dorms because we have to do 4 to a room at hotels, meaning 2 people sleep on the floor. But with dorms everyone gets a bed.

or you could have two people to a bed in a hotel, but if youre a guy, that might be a bit awkward, although i dont see why. Since im a girl, i was fine with it, but then again, it was only for one night at states. Maybe three days might be a bit too much to share a bed with someone else. anyway, i think dorms are much better too.

We're staying in dorms because, as above, they're cheaper and closer (which also equates to cheaper because you don't have to pay for any type of transportation while you're there).

This will be the first time my team has stayed in the dorms, though; in the three-and-change previous years that I've competed, it's always been a hotel for both States and Nats. The lack of a pool and in-room TV is the biggest problem for my team (we like to swim and play video games, what can I say?); hotel breakfasts aren't usually anything to write home about, anyway. My team always sleeps four to a room/two to a bed, and it's never been a problem for girls or guys.

My roommate and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the dorm air conditioning. We froze to death that night.
I hated the dorms. I don't want to go to college any more.

That happened to pretty much all the girls on our team but me and my roommate. They were so mad when they found out the knob to turn the a.c. off was right behind one of the beds. I felt the dorms were so small and cramped, but it didn't matter much to us since we were only in them for like 5 hours each day (that's how much sleep we got!)
I personally feel that dorms would be much better then hotels for all the reasons mentioned above. Part of the whole experience of nationals is seeing all the other SciOly kids from around the country and getting to meet new people. The dorms give you that option, and they're not unbearable that you can't stay in them for just 3 days.

I guess that's true. Still, I couldn't live like that full-time.
