No we don't. Use "they" or the proper nouns if you're not sure. Ask if you want to know. Pretty much everybody except robodude has no problem with this.

Re: We need a gender on our profiles!
I do agree - there isn't enough space in my brain these days to remember everyone's gender. It's not a necessity, but it would make life a wee bit easier.
My name is Eileen.
I'm a proud Aspie girl.
My events are Physical Science Lab (first at state), Ornithology (first at state), and Shock Value (third at state), this year.
We're going to NATIONALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I am from Yankton, South Dakota.

Re: We need a gender on our profiles!
The singular "they" has become widely accepted and is therefore effectively grammatically correct. It's less unwieldy than "s/he", that's for sure, but that could be another alternative if you object to "they"croman74 wrote:but then it's grammatically incorrect and that would bug me.blue cobra wrote:No we don't. Here's an idea: put your gender in your signature.

No really, just ask and then remember it. It's not that hard. You remember the events people do with great accuracy; why not genders?
Yeah, sig works too guys... I guess...amerikestrel wrote:Here's an idea: put your gender in your signature.
Um, I'm pretty sure it's kinda time consuming...without wrote:is it really that hard to do? you guys were able to do all this wonderful stuff already.

Re: We need a gender on our profiles!
Personally, I don't care that much if people mess up my gender (this is the Internet, after all), and I know that some other people don't really care either, but if it seems to be a big deal to you, either announce it to the whole forum in General Chat or put your gender in your sig.
And yeah, if you ask (even multiple times), people will usually tell you their gender.

Re: We need a gender on our profiles!
Why this is a problem:
Usually its not that big of a deal, this forum has more of an equal ratio of guys to girls than any other forum I've seen, so I do think it would be beneficial.
I really doubt it would be that hard to implement, just a label in our profile pages, aren't there mods that can be added to forums?
