WHY the metric system exclusively, ESPECIALLY for builds

For anything Science Olympiad-related that might not fall under a specific event or competition.

Re: WHY the metric system exclusively, ESPECIALLY for builds

Post by SPP SciO »

A Science Olympiad-specific reason (or at least benefit) would be scoring also. With the spreadsheet-aided scoring of building events, having all numbers in decimal form probably simplifies things and reduces errors.

I've always felt that growing up in a world with readily accessible pocket calculators is the difference between viewing imperial units as practical and simple, vs clumsy and outdated. I find it much easier to do mental math with the fractions that imperial units lend themselves to, but if a calculator is available (which it always is now) the metric system is just as easy, and more useful for comparisons, etc.

As an aside, I'm excited for when Metric Mastery returns as an event one day.
