There's no positive proof for any of these statements.

Yeah, pretty much. Read the last paragraph of this section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoameric ... Long_Count

If people just look at it like, the previous 13th baktun was the end of the previous creation. Now, it's once again the 13th baktun. It makes sense in a way, but I much prefer to listen to the people who are saying that the Mayans would have a big celebration at the end of the cycle, and not expect the world to end.

Now, with the magnetic reversal, read this: http://robertkyriakides.wordpress.com/2 ... tive-view/

I personally don't agree with this, but, it's an interesting possibility.

The dates for predicting the end of the world, have passed, yet were still here

Here are some links of failed prediction dates:

http://www.religioustolerance.org/end_wrl4.htm
http://www.abhota.info/end3.htm

Now if the world should end in the near time future it would rather be from
a) A meteor
b) A star explosing
c) The sun Exploding

Meteors and Gamma Ray Bursts from star supernovas from a very close star I guess. The sun exploding, no. Scarier possiblilites: Yellowstone super volcano erupting, sea levels rising and destroying coastal areas, a nuclear winter, and the possibility that there will be an ice age (beginning from global waming). A meteor is scary too, but hopefully, if there's a massive meteor coming toward earth, we'll send a rocket up to slightly change the gravitational pull of the meteor.

A far more likely scenario is global thermonuclear war.

The world isn't going to end. The biggest thing people look at for this is the mayan calendar. They had several, one of them ends on 12-21-12. So what? The mayans would probably just throw a party and make a new calendar :P

There actually is some debate over whether the baktun is ending on December 21st of December 23rd. Yes, the mayans would have a celebration for getting to the end of a rotation. I don't think you understood the rest of my post though. Mayan belief says that during the previous 13th baktun, the world ended. It's not the end of their calender, they wouldn't go and make up a new one, that's illogical.

And the "current" world will "end" and "time" (the new calender) will begin (again).
