Re: How to mount boomilever onto the J-hook
If you follow the rules, you will have to drill a hole to mount the mandated j hook.
If you build the wall, I would suggest that you make it very solid.
The wall is a 3/4" plywood, so I would use that for the base also. I would put about 4" of the base in front of the wall and the rear of the base long enough that you can get clamps on it or run a piece of wood (at least a 1 x 2) across it and then clamp that piece to the table.
Remember that you will need angle braces on it. I prefer to use good size gussets and 3/4 plywood would be great.
Where you buy the plywood can make the crude cuts for the wall and the base and the square that you will cut diagonally for the gussets.
The gussets are much more firm than metal angle braces. One year we glued a 2 x 4 to the base and the wall to remove any wiggles. 4" side on the base.

Building the Testing Wall is a good way for eager parents to be involved. Suggestions by retired1 are good.

Re: How to mount boomilever onto the J-hook
Based off the current diagram (side view) on soinc for boomilever, it looks like the mounting piece of the boom isn't hooked onto the j-hook, rather, sitting on top (hanging?). Does this mean we have to follow that diagram or are people still going to go for the drilling a hole into the mounting piece and hooking it onto the j-hook?

Take another look at the diagram. It is clearly inside of the hook. You can use whatever size and shape of that cross piece that you choose as long as it fits inside of the hook.

What base is better, the ones made in 2013 or the ones in the soinc diagram?

The 2013 and earlier base designs are meant for the old bolt attachment style. The current ones, similar to the one in the diagram, are more suited to the J-hook attachment.Cow481 wrote:What base is better, the ones made in 2013 or the ones in the soinc diagram?
