The UGA High School Math Tournament is also today. I'm interested in seeing how missing Math team members effects some of the teams outcomes.

UGA Results: (scores exclude builds)
1. Chattahoochee A (121)
2. Orlando Science A (186)
3. GSMST A (188)
4. Brookwood A (190)
5. Brookwood B (194)
6. Brookwood C (196)
7. Chattahoochee B (205)
8. Johns Creek A (230)
9. Walton A (243)
10. Chattahoochee C (258)

Nothing too unusual to see here, although Orlando did a little better than I would have expected. I didn't think they were doing that well in-state apparently they improved last year and I didn't notice. Brookwood and Chattahoochee are clearly leading by a lot, with everyone else looking basically as expected.

So a bit of clarification on the Astro 1 and Astro 2. At UGA we run 3 different wholey test events in a large lecture hall. Last year one extreamly competent volunteer was able to hold down the whole room. However this year a volunteer who wasn't familiar with science olympiad gave out to copies of the test to each team in the first time slot. This mistake wasn't realized until a supervisor came in the room and realized there were very few tests left. As a result the second time slot had to take the test of off the projectors in the room. Calling the two time slots "entirely different exams" is a gross overstatement. While you could definitely argue that there were different testing conditions (and a competitor did, rather vehemently). Just to be safe it was decided to give out two sets of medals.

Updates on regionals - Georgia Tech's date change has caused Walton to switch to UNG-Dahlonega (presumably because of GHP conflicts on February 23rd). This means that UNG-Dahlonega has essentially the same matchup as it did two years ago, with Brookwood and Chattahoochee, except all of these schools now have 3 teams. This should get interesting very quickly.

Fulton beat Piedmont? (The one from NC, I'm assuming?)

Yes. Piedmont seemed unusually weak. I'm not going to speculate on reasons for this until the scoresheet is out though.

Piedmont did an admirable job. Like most tournaments, there were a few shaky events and those did not go their way. Also, they may not have brought their full team as well. Missing a few key members makes a big difference. On the flip side, FSA did a fantastic job. Their second team was almost beating everyone else too. Well, they have beaten everyone not named Piedmont IB. Also don't read too much into it. Too early in the year and no building events.

Yeah I was really surprised when I didn't hear Piedmont's name being called out for every event. I think the people from last year aren't on the team anymore.
