I second this. Even though we use Avogadro for scoring at the Solon HS invitational, which allows ES to submit scores independently, our ES are still required to go through score counseling and their data entry is manually verified by scoring staff.chalker wrote:The biggest concern I have is that far too many people want to 'streamline' everything and get to the point of scores essentially going straight from the event supervisor / volunteers to the awards ceremony. Re: Scoresheets: tournament management software
As far as my understanding goes, having used Avogadro as an event supervisor, Avogadro does have that function in which after the supervisor submits scores, someone who is in a "staff" role has to verify the scores, which I guess is its way of leaving room for score counseling before it goes straight to awards.nicholasmaurer wrote:I second this. The "review" feature you describe can be turned on or off. If you wanted, the scores could be directly submitted by an ES for awards. However, I would strongly recommend leaving the feature enabled so that scoring staff or the tournament director have to approve scores before they are finalized.pikachu4919 wrote:As far as my understanding goes, having used Avogadro as an event supervisor, Avogadro does have that function in which after the supervisor submits scores, someone who is in a "staff" role has to verify the scores, which I guess is its way of leaving room for score counseling before it goes straight to awards.nicholasmaurer wrote:I second this. Re: Scoresheets: tournament management software
No less than I would expect from Avogadro's years of experience. Although depending on the dedication of the event supervisor, they may or may not just leave after sending in scores without waiting for them to be verified. In 2017, one event supervisor actually sent us their scores on flash drive via an assistant and left entirely without ever coming to the scoring room, leaving us to deal with the mess (several unbroken ties). That was what led to me being more explicit upfront about ESes coming to scoring and going through some form of score counseling.nicholasmaurer wrote:The "review" feature you describe can be turned on or off. Re: Scoresheets: tournament management software
We try to be very explicit with our supervisors regarding expectations - they personally should turn in their tests, go through score counseling, sign off on the final results, and provide contact information in case of unexpected issues. Since most are coaches with teams staying for awards, it is usually not too challenging to achieve this. However, occasionally a supervisor will "disappear" and have to be hunted down to verify something...Unome wrote: No less than I would expect from Avogadro's years of experience. Re: Scoresheets: tournament management software
This is pretty much what I (tried to) do last year. It seemed to work pretty well for the most part, considering we had several fill-in supervisors after the snow date change...nicholasmaurer wrote:We try to be very explicit with our supervisors regarding expectations - they personally should turn in their tests, go through score counseling, sign off on the final results, and provide contact information in case of unexpected issues.
